Worship Arts encompasses music, poetry, dance and many other forms of creative expression. Worship Arts at Huston-Tillotson University plays a central role in the student's artistic development and leadership formation, all while aligning their lives with God's will and purpose.

Shedrach L. Rowry, M.Ed.

Director of Worship Arts & Church Engagment

"Identifying, producing, and equipping creative leaders."

Shed, is a distinguished songwriter, musician, Billboard charting artist, worship leader and author. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Ministry & Biblical Studies from Lipscomb University and his Master of Education in Higher Ed. Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Urban Ministry. He is the CEO and founder of THE LEVITES, a band that has made a substantial impact in the music industry since its inception in 2004. THE LEVITES have performed at prestigious venues and events including a Stubbs Restaurant residency, HEB Feast of Sharing, The House of Blues, SXSW Music Festival, Austin City Limits, Trinity Broadcasting Network, Public Broadcasting Service, MegaFest Conference, Urbana Missions Conference, Teatro Coccia in Novara, Italy and many others. Their dynamic presence and diverse musical repertoire continue to resonate with audiences globally.

Rev. Marcus Jones, M.Div.

"Inspiring young people to discern their purpose."

Rev. Marcus Jones is a native of Dallas, Texas, and proud alumnus of Huston-Tillotson University. He has a B.A. in Business Management and a Master of Divinity degree in African-American Church Studies from Perkins School of Theology at SMU. He is a published writer, with articles relating to Church, pop culture, Christianity, religion and hip-hop. His focus is helping people see the healthy balance between religious and secular engagement in hip-hop and arts. When he is not reading books, he is writing for his blog, The Informed Scholar. While all of these things are great, there is nothing he is more proud of than being a father to his two sons, and a dedicated and faithful husband to his wife. His life goal is to become a bridge of love and information, leading and guiding people from one side to the other as they cross his path!
